On January 17th, the new cabinet for the Tunisian government was announced. The news did little to quell the protests, though, and thousands of protestors continued to fill the streets of cities across Tunisia. The cabinet announced contained members of the Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD), former president Ben Ali’s party. The Tunisian people saw the new cabinet as beholden to the old regime, and would not tolerate further corruption. The protests continued until January 20th, when Zouhair M’Dhaffer, a member of the RCD resigned. Other RCD members resigned from the party on the same day. It wasn’t until January 27th, though, that Ghannouchi announced the resignations of six former RCD party members, including the Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, Finance Minister and Interior Minister. This left three former RCD members in the cabinet, including Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi.
